Swedish tourists robbed of $17K worth in jewelry at knifepoint: police

HARRISON — A Swedish woman on vacation with her daughter was robbed at knifepoint, with the suspect stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, police said.

The June 15 robbery happened when the 31-year-old was walking back to the Element Hotel on Somerset Street from a nearby QuickChek at about 1:30 a.m., according to a police report.

The victim said a knife-wielding man wearing a hooded sweatshirt and dark clothing approached her and her 12-year-old daughter under the Interstate 280 overpass, police said.

The suspect told the woman to give him everything she had, which included two gold chains and a gold bracelet collectively valued at about $17,000. The woman then ran with her daughter back to the hotel and called police, the report states.

Both victims were treated at the hotel for shock and fatigue. Police were looking at nearby surveillance video for information on the incident, police said.
